Tv3 marathon.
Cycle, dance and meditate for the Tv3 marathon
Once again club lleurosport is joining the annual tv3 marathon, with various new additions this time around.
This year the money raised will go to research into lesser known diseases.
The majority of lesser known diseases, 80% approximately, are genetic in origin. This means that the primary cause lies in the alteration of a gene, usually inherited from forebears. For this reason, many of them are also hereditary.
Are they curable?
The scientific community states that during the entire period of years in which they are not diagnosed, sufferers are not able to receive adequate treatment. Even when they are diagnosed, in many cases there is no treatment available. The majority of medicines used to treat lesser known diseases are denominated as ‘orphan medicines’. They have acquired this name because as these pathologies affect so few people the cost of the medicines is very high, and funding them can be difficult. In spite of the advances being made every day, today 40% of lesser known diseases still have no treatment. They are the cause of 35% of infant mortalities annually, and 50% of deaths under the age of 30. Therefore, adequate treatment can improve the life expectancy and quality of life of those affected. This is why it is so important to support this research.
